This community-driven role involves patrolling an assigned district during one of two shifts to enforce city and state laws. Officers may be assigned to various units within the Hampton Police Division. What You'll Be Doing:

Patrol an assigned district within the City of Hampton using a patrol car or on foot to prevent crime or disturbances and arrest violators. Familiarize yourself with housing, businesses, and residents within the district. Notice suspicious persons and unusual conditions, conduct preliminary investigations, and check the security of unoccupied buildings. Report hazards that endanger public safety, such as malfunctioning traffic signals or damaged utility structures. Perform other related duties as required. Benefits of a Certified Police Officer:

Click here for a complete job description Must be a current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Police Officer. Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of a GED is required; college coursework in Police Science or related fields is preferred. Candidates must be courteous yet firm, alert, and capable of understanding complex instructions, with good observation skills, moral character, and physical condition. Must pass a physical exam, background check, polygraph, agility test, written exam, and psychological assessment. Must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. The role involves supervision through specific instructions and daily evaluations, with potential personal danger during arrests. Officers may be rotated to other units and must be able to provide credible testimony in court.
