Minimum Requirements
Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in education.
Valid Alaska teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
Six semester education credits in extended learning (gifted/talented).
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills and follow through are essential.
Prefer experience working in an elementary school setting.
Previous teaching experience with gifted & talented students beneficial.
Position Summary This position will work closely with existing school resources and community resources to address the needs of extended learning and other high performing students. The individual must be able to build relationships with students, staff, and parents, and must be flexible, sincere, and positive. The position provides support to academically gifted students and their families. Duties include supporting/facilitating the identification of gifted students, developing student learning plans, and collaborating with regular classroom teachers in the modification and/or differentiation of curricula by meeting regularly to review targeted academic needs and goals. The individual will facilitate and coordinate the spelling bee and geography bee.
Responsibilities
Support identification of gifted students and development of student learning plans.
Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to modify and differentiate curricula.
Meet regularly to review targeted academic needs and goals with students, staff, and families.
Facilitate and coordinate spelling bee and geography bee activities.
Compensation Salary is dependent on experience and education. The Juneau School District offers a competitive salary, and an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) plan.
