Advanced Practice Provider Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Orthopedics - Nights at NYU Langone Health. Position summary: join our team as an Advanced Practice Provider Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Orthopedics - Nights. The successful candidate provides coordination and assurance of comprehensive nursing care using nursing process and pertinent standards of care, diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, and performance of therapeutic, corrective, and prescriptive measures within a collaborative practice agreement with a specific physician on the NYU Hospitals Center staff. Responsibilities
Plans and organizes care to meet individual patient needs and ensure appropriate clinical resource utilization per protocols and pathways. Monitors and trends cost effectiveness related to service efficiency and performance indicators. Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable. Works collaboratively with nursing and other disciplines in developing and implementing clinical studies within the area of expertise. Uses evidence-based literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Participates in development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for quality and performance improvement. Serves as a clinical expert and resource for education of peers and other health professionals. Maintains current expertise in the area of practice and promotes professional growth in clinical and managerial roles. Considers patient age and cultural needs in all patient care; evaluates treatment plans for effectiveness and modifies per protocols. Practices as a member of the allied health staff under Medical Staff rules and bylaws. Prescribes medical equipment, devices, physical and occupational therapy, and home health services per practice protocol; prescribes in-patient and discharge medications per New York State law (including controlled substances with DEA authorization). Collaborates with attending physicians and other disciplines to identify and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes patient/family preference and outcomes. Forms plan of care with the attending physician, patient, and family based on goals and length of stay. Orders laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per protocols and follows abnormal findings with appropriate referrals as needed. Performs comprehensive health history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment within the designated unit. Provides consultation about the therapeutic regimen to nursing staff and coordinates with nursing leadership for timely communication. Participates in development and revision of interdisciplinary standards and patient/family education materials relevant to area of practice. Facilitates continuity of care across the care continuum and collaborates with the team to implement the therapeutic plan of care for groups of patients. Minimum Qualifications
Licensure: Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse license and New York State Nurse Practitioner registration. Education: Master's Degree in Nursing. Certification: ANCC or board certification in a clinical NP specialty; Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association. Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse License - NYS; Nurse Practitioner - NYS; BLS. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Life Support certification (ACLS) may be required based on privileges. At least five years of clinical nursing practice in the relevant patient population; NP experience preferred; strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills; ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team; physical stamina and dexterity; membership in professional specialty organizations desirable.
