Overview
Assistant Director (Research Compliance Leader) at Indiana University. The Indiana University (IU) Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), within the Office for Research Compliance, oversees human subject research to ensure ethical compliance across IU campuses and affiliated hospitals. The IU Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) are supported by the IU Human Subjects Office (HSO). HRPP staff provide guidance on IRB review requirements and participate in audits conducted by the Quality Improvement Office. Educational and training opportunities are offered to researchers regarding human subjects research.
Responsibilities
Provides day-to-day operational management of research compliance staff and leads associated activities.
Establishes short-term operational objectives.
Develops program concepts, objectives, deliverables, guidelines, criteria, policies/procedures; sets metrics to measure productivity and identifies areas of concern; develops SOPs for workflow processes according to regulatory guidelines.
Identifies operational issues and implements solutions to improve processes and efficiency.
Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; sets work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and takes corrective action as needed.
Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates in and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; accountable for team performance.
Ensures and provides training to staff to improve research compliance protocols; identifies development opportunities for staff.
Keeps next-level leaders informed of trends and significant problems.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (preferably in a related field)
5 years of experience consulting and advising on research compliance
Experience with IRB convened board meeting procedures
Certified IRB Professional (CIP) upon date of hire
Proficient communication skills
Maintains a high degree of professionalism
Time management and priority setting skills
Strong commitment to quality
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent collaboration and team-building skills
Ability to coach and deliver constructive feedback
Instills commitment to organizational goals
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to compliance programs
Additional Information This role requires the ability to communicate effectively and to operate a computer and standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and campus. The individual must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation. Location: Indianapolis, Indiana. This position may be remote or hybrid (remote plus in-person) subject to university policy and business needs.
