Overview

Texas Business Development (BD) Director and Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for driving sales and growth in Texas, including with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). This position leads the regional business development program and delivers on growth targets. The role collaborates with sales and operations teams to develop strong client relationships and maintain a robust portfolio. It provides strategic direction on sales and growth strategies to meet the regional plan, primarily in the infrastructure/transportation market, and aims to achieve results aligned with KPIs and the overall company strategy.

The Team

This position reports to the Atlas Regional Business Development Vice-President, part of the Atlas sales organization, led by our Chief Growth Officer, with a dotted line into the Infrastructure Regional Senior Vice President. Peers include other senior sales and operations leaders responsible for regional growth, profit and loss. The Texas BD Director and KAM will lead a client-relationship team that includes seller/doers who focus on providing key accounts, including TxDOT, with excellent customer service and quality work. A team of dedicated sales and marketing professionals is available for proposal support as this role identifies and develops new business opportunities. The position works closely with Atlas’s National Key Account Program Manager and strategic pursuits team, as well as operations leaders across the regional Infrastructure business.

Responsibilities

Developing Growth Strategy, Planning, and Delivering Results

Develop and execute the regional business development strategy and plan in alignment with the company’s strategic plan. Play a major role in new work selections.

Proactively partner with regional operations leadership and technical groups on sales plans, including understanding staffing resources, expertise, and utilization to grow the region and identify opportunities.

Champion strategic hires needed to achieve regional sales plan, including potentially taking the lead as hiring manager.

Establish, submit for approval, and monitor the operating budget for assigned BD activities; develop annual revenue/cost projections and monitor monthly status reports. Maintain accurate CRM entries.

Engage with Atlas team members to stay informed of key technical and business trends from client and project activities to enhance and expand current offerings in Texas.

Developing and Maintaining Strategic Client Relationships

Serve as a Key Account Manager (KAM) for TxDOT and potentially other key clients in the region. Develop strategy and account plans and lead a team to retain and grow significant business with TxDOT. Ensure customer satisfaction and respond to customer needs.

Identify new clients within the region and win new work with them.

Represent Atlas externally through participation in industry events; maintain a visible presence in the Texas market. Support public relations programs and participate in leadership roles in industry associations or community activities as appropriate.

Explore business opportunities with new clients and areas by leveraging professional networks; identify prospects, screen project opportunities, and schedule contacts and information gathering.

Proposal, Deal Development, and Leadership

Lead Go/No-Go reviews and brief leadership on opportunities.

Develop and execute teaming agreements with strategic partners.

Coordinate and review all aspects of proposal development, including strategy, team composition, and writing to ensure win strategy is articulated. Engage with national capture and proposal teams, regional staff, and technical staff.

Mentor and coach seller/doers in business development.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 15 or more years of progressively responsible sales experience leading growth of an office.

Experience leading, developing, and managing sales programs across a region with private and public clients in the construction, engineering, and science disciplines.

Self-starter with sales orientation, optimism, and drive; strong organizational skills and ability to act quickly on sales leads and deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across all levels of an organization.

Creative problem-solving skills in demanding situations.

Ability to work independently and in a team with internal and external clients.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), MS-Teams, and SharePoint.

Experience with or ability to learn and consistently use CRM software.

Other Qualities

Ability to perform in a high-stress environment.

Travel (mostly across Texas) is expected to be approximately 30% – 50% of the time.
