Genentech is looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Director of Campus Landscape Planning to lead and steward the ongoing evolution of our South San Francisco campus’s landscape and public realm as we undertake a major redevelopment of the site. This key individual will serve as the primary owner’s representative to our campus landscape architecture firm while ensuring that the goals of our Campus Vision Plan are implemented with excellence and adapted to meet future needs. As part of the broader Site Services Campus Development team, the Campus Landscape Planning Director will oversee the integration of landscape design with urban planning, placemaking, environmental sustainability, and the enhancement of a vibrant campus experience. In addition to managing the overall landscape vision, the role will also ensure its application to individual campus development projects and, over time, take responsibility for directing Project Managers during the implementation of specific landscape projects, from design through construction. The role reports to the Senior Director of Site Planning and Entitlements and will be closely integrated with the Site Development team, coordinating site-wide projects (infrastructure, utilities, parking, landscape, logistics, etc.). The Opportunity Key Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities

Act as Genentech's representative to the campus landscape architecture firm, setting strategic direction for landscape, streetscape, and public realm design across the campus Lead the evolution of the high-level landscape master plan established in the Campus Vision Plan (CVP), ensuring it adapts to new priorities, updated objectives, and additional site-specific considerations Provide consistent design guidelines and priorities that ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes, enhancing the campus environment and employee experience Application of Landscape Strategy to Campus Projects

Oversee the practical application of the master landscape strategy to individual campus development projects Work closely with site planners, architects, and internal stakeholders to translate master plan goals into project-specific requirements and deliverables Serve as a key liaison for ensuring landscape objectives are coordinated across multiple projects within the site-wide CVP development pipeline Project Oversight from Planning to Implementation

Collaborate with landscape architects, planners, and project teams to guide design decisions during project planning and development Over time, take responsibility for directing Project Managers and tracking the implementation of individual landscape projects Manage the full lifecycle of landscape projects, ensuring that the design, planning, and construction phases adhere to approved objectives and timelines Lead reviews of design documentation, construction plans, and on-site execution to maintain quality standards and alignment with the master plan Environmental Sustainability Stewardship

Ensure landscape strategies actively support and advance Genentech's sustainability goals, with an emphasis on water conservation, biodiversity, green infrastructure, and ecosystem health Advocate for climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable design solutions, promoting best practices in green landscape development Public Realm Planning

Support the broader Site Planning team by developing landscape design that prioritizes active, accessible, and inclusive outdoor spaces throughout the campus and contributes to thoughtful placemaking Promote designs that align with the team’s urban design principles Advance landscape strategies supporting multimodal connectivity, such as pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure Public Art & Cultural Integration

Collaborate on the development of a campus-wide public art strategy, identifying opportunities to incorporate impactful, site-specific installations that reflect Genentech's values, history, and culture Work with artists, curators, and designers to help curate a forward-looking art program that enhances the campus experience and complies with City of South San Francisco requirements Who you are

Qualifications : Educational Background: Degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Environmental Design, or related field. Professional licensure preferred Experience: A minimum of 10+ years of experience in landscape architecture, urban design, or related fields, including experience with large-scale campus or urban public realm projects Familiarity with managing or overseeing the design and construction phases of projects Experience working as an owner’s representative—or similar client-facing leadership role—strongly preferred Knowledge: Expertise in landscape sustainability strategies, including rainwater management, native plantings, habitat creation, and energy-efficient design; understanding of public art coordination and its integration within broader design contexts Skills: Exceptional project management and organization skills; strong interpersonal and communication abilities; creativity in problem-solving, balanced with analytical, data-driven thinking Key Attributes: Visionary thinker, collaborative leader, commitment to environmental stewardship, proactive and detail-oriented in managing design standards from planning through construction This position is not eligible for relocation. Compensation & Benefits

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $168,100 - $312,300 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
