The Police Officer is responsible for the operation, direction, and control of the law enforcement and physical security activities of a Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Health Care System (HCS), or Police Service (PS). Overview

Open Continuous announcement until April 3, 2026 Salary $53,386 to $69,399 per year (GS-06) Location Spokane, WA (4 vacancies) Remote job: No Telework eligible, Remote job: No Travel Required Responsibilities

Protect individuals and preserve life and property during threats to personal safety. Respond to and engage potentially armed individuals during active threat response situations. Mitigate opportunities for assault, illegal entry, and theft involving highly protected information, property, and processes. Provide patrol in vehicles, by foot, and/or on a bicycle. Respond to calls for police assistance, irregularities, and suspicious circumstances. Conduct asset protection during transport. Write comprehensive incident reports. Seek, detect, seize, and protect evidence and witnesses at the scene of an incident. Detect and intervene in criminal activity. Conduct investigative stops, detaining witnesses, and apprehending suspects. Advise individuals on their rights and protect the constitutional rights of persons. Intervene to deescalate situations and determine when and how much force must be applied. Conduct prisoner transports to holding facilities and courts. Conduct disaster response and recovery. Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) to injured personnel and coordinate additional emergency response. Coordinate search, rescue, and recovery for persons at high risk. Investigate incidents and mitigate further risk. Perform drug and contraband intervention training. Intervene to deescalate suicidal behavior and prevent suicides. Prepare case files and testify in court. Qualifications

U.S. citizenship required. One year of specialized experience (GS-06) related to maintaining order, responding to emergencies, and conducting patrol and investigations. Current, valid state‑issued driver’s license. Ability to possess firearms under the Gun Control Act of 1968, maintain qualification and certification with VA‑approved firearms. Physical stamina, agility, dexterity, and strength to pursue, apprehend, or detain persons who are often uncooperative, assaultive, and/or armed. Effective May 7, 2025, driver’s licenses or state‑issued identification cards that are not REAL‑ID compliant cannot be used as acceptable identification. How you will be evaluated
