About Us Spangler Environmental, LLC is a well-established environmental consulting firm serving land developers, engineers, architects, attorneys, and government agencies throughout the Southeast. We provide science-based solutions for environmental permitting, natural resource assessments, and regulatory compliance. We are currently seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist to join our Natural Resources team in Charlotte, NC.
Position Summary This role offers a mix of fieldwork, technical reporting, and permitting coordination. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives outdoors, is detail-oriented, and values working on diverse environmental projects across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Perform delineations of wetlands and waters pursuant to US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), state, and local protocols
Conduct threatened and endangered species surveys and habitat assessments
Draft technical reports, regulatory memos, and jurisdictional determination packages
Prepare and submit PCNs and state/local permit applications, including exhibit preparation using ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and other mapping/design/graphics software
Collect and process GPS field data for integration into regulatory documents
Coordinate with agencies and project teams to support permitting and compliance
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or related field
At least 2 years of experience performing USACE wetland delineations and jurisdictional determinations
Familiarity with Clean Water Act (Sections 401/404), Endangered Species Act, and NEPA
Proficiency in ArcGIS and Microsoft Office
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel overnight as needed
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
Stream origin certification from NCDWR or TDEC
NCWAM or NCSAM training
Experience with AutoCAD or other mapping/design platforms
Familiarity with field data collection tools
