Overview

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. DEPARTMENT : Parks & Recreation HOURS OF WORK : Hours vary; Monday through Friday; 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. LOCATION : West High School, Bartlett Pool & Dimond Pools To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances. Position and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Assistant Aquatic Manager trains and leads lifeguards and the program and operation of the Municipality of Anchorage aquatic facilities including all pools and waterfront lakes. As the principal lead, this position is required to oversee the safety of all persons utilizing the aquatic venue. Responsibilities include lifeguard programs; instructing all levels of water safety and first aid classes; maintaining and monitoring pool filtration and chemical feed systems; cleaning facilities, operating equipment, and performing minor repairs; cashiering, filling out forms, generating reports, and maintaining facility records as assigned. On an as needed basis, this position will be assigned to various aquatic facilities as directed by the Aquatic Superintendent or designee. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

and

two

(2)

years lifeguard experience

and

one (1)

year as a swim instructor. OR Associate's Degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline

and

one (1)

year of experience as a swim instructor. Must possess the following license and certifications by the time of hire: Valid State of Alaska driver's license and satisfactory driving record at time of hire American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid Certification at time of hire American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification at time of hire American Red Cross Automatic External Defibrillator certification at time of hire Certified Pool/spa Operator Certification or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification at time of hire Preferences

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants. Conditional Hire Requirements

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional upon: Submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver’s license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of the Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver’s license was first issued within one year prior to application; the processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant. Acceptance of information regarding acceptable driving history as per MOA Driving Conviction Guidelines. Submission of a current copy of Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid Certifications. Maintenance of all required certifications and licenses for the duration of employment. Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation and fingerprinting as required (fingerprint cards dated within 30 days; processing fee and costs are the responsibility of the selected applicant). Satisfactory Municipal Employment Office background check (criminal history, education verification, and employment dates). Military Service Interview Preference : Veterans or National Guard/organized reserves members may receive interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D by attaching appropriate documentation (e.g., DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a VA letter). Documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications must be met for preference consideration. Current service proof may be provided via a statement of service showing required details. The Municipality of Anchorage is an Employer of National Service.
