The Autism Support Teacher will develop and implement an effective educational program for the students assigned to the Autism Support program; assist classroom teachers in developing plans/strategies for student success; creatively design and assign activities that modify the general curriculum to appropriately meet students’ needs. Provide direct and timely specialist assistance to students in regular classes with disability and additional learning and support needs and their teachers. Emphasize the needs of individual students, school priorities, and evidence-based programs to assist students with additional learning and support needs. Job Responsibilities

Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion Complete all necessary special education forms Determine student progress by collecting and monitoring appropriate data Coordinate and facilitate parent meetings Calmly and effectively deal with student problem behavior Understand and implement empirically supported behavioral interventions Assist the classroom and special areas teachers with curriculum modifications and adaptations for individual students Establish an instructional/learning environment for students to reinforce appropriate student behavior Develop a variety of instructional activities to meet the students’ individual goals/objectives based on the student’s IEP Select appropriate materials for implementation of CCS curriculum and adapt materials and methods to learning styles and abilities of students Submit reports in a timely manner to coincide with IEP review meetings Enforce the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code Promote good citizenship through actions as a role model Conduct themselves according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school Maintain the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students’ information, progress, and records Assume other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator Abide by the CCS Employee Manual, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations Qualifications
A four-year college degree and PA Special Education (PK-12) Teacher Certification. Autism endorsement preferred. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within determined a timeframe. Experience with Verbal Behavior Program preferred Demonstrated competence teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement Demonstrated competence as a special education teacher Ability to set priorities and adapt to change Excellent verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles Knowledge of basic computer operations Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School Work Environment and Physical Demands
