Assists the head coach with the swim team as part of YMCA programs, emphasizing values such as equal participation, family involvement, individual goal-setting, sportsmanship, and holistic development of spirit, mind, and body.
Leads by example, adhering to YMCA policies and serving as a role model both on and off the pool deck.
Assesses swimmers and provides appropriate instruction and event assignments, with a minimum of one event per athlete at scheduled meets.
Provides coaching and feedback during practices and meets, reflecting YMCA's beliefs in competitive swimming.
Assists in developing practice workouts tailored to each skill level group.
Builds authentic relationships with swimmers and parents, encouraging involvement and identifying volunteers.
Works with the head coach and aquatics director to develop practice and meet schedules, balancing team needs with YMCA membership considerations.
Communicates swim team program details and schedules to swimmers and parents.
Maintains necessary records, including attendance, progress reports, meet results, team records, and qualifying times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma, experience in swim coaching, and knowledge of skill and stroke development.
Certifications: American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and O2; current safety certifications.
Current YUSA coaches safety training or Lifeguard certifications; completion of Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving (online from YMCA LCDC).
Ability to demonstrate YMCA-standard swim team coaching skills.
