Position Overview:
The Nepali In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in various settings. This contract position offers flexibility and opportunities to expand your interpreting business with multiple sessions per day.
Job Functions:
Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions professionally.
Maintain professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness.
Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements.
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
Respect and understand LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
Show strong customer service and interpreting passion.
Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
Render accurate concepts and meanings according to protocol.
Qualifications:
Fluent in both Nepali and English, with strong verbal communication skills.
Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy.
Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or holding a national certification.
Knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
Interpreting practice degrees or certifications.
National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
Accredited Medical Interpreting Training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap).
