Position Purpose:
Research Assistants’ (RA) activities include study recruitment; conducting structured clinical interviews; data collection using questionnaires, behavioral tasks, and collection of biomarkers (saliva, urine); organization of study binders; scoring of questionnaires; and computer entry of study data. Data collection may be done in person, remotely, or a combination. RA’s are expected to work with several different populations that may include adult cigarette smokers with depression, anxiety, or other psychiatric disorders who will be assessed during a standardized laboratory research protocol. Major responsibilities include:
Participant recruitment, screening and data collection in a laboratory setting 50% Data Management 15% Track, schedule, organize transport for and reschedule sessions as necessary during baseline and experimental phases for laboratory research. 15% Fund custodian 10% Assist with other aspects of clinical research, including literature review. 10%
Job Qualifications & Competencies
Education & Experience
Required: BA or BS in Psychology or related field with 1-year experience (other degrees considered based on work experience). Research experience through academic training or work experience required. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Ability to work independently is required. Flexibility in work schedule is required; may include evening hours. The RA must provide his or her own transportation to research site. Knowledge of experimental research methodology necessary; knowledge of clinical research procedures and APA formatting preferred. Experience working in an experimental laboratory setting or with a psychiatric population preferred. Experience conducting structured clinical interviews of psychiatric disorders preferred. Knowledge of the American Psychological Association Publication Manual and ethical code preferred.

Strong verbal abilities and communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to detail; maturity, and responsibility. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately, take initiative and maintain organized working conditions required. Ability to function as a research team member and leader; ability to motivate employees to meet performance goals. Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
