Located in the scenic Puget Sound area with Mount Rainier in the distance, Tacoma is the third largest city in Washington State with a thriving and diverse community of over 200,000 residents. Tacoma Community College (TCC) was built on the ancestral territory of Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Puyallup, Nisqually, and Squaxin Island Tribes. This Part-Time faculty position is responsible for preparing and teaching Political Science courses at Tacoma Community College, including POLS 101 (Introduction to Political Science) and POLS 202 (American Government). The position reports to the Dean for Education, Social and Behavioral Sciences and works with the department Chair and faculty. Essential Functions
Prepare, teach, and assess outcomes in assigned courses in accordance with department and college standards Be available and prepared to teach day, evening, hybrid and online courses Assess student learning and use data to improve teaching and learning Maintain current knowledge in political science and effective pedagogy Perform related duties as assigned Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in political science or related field from an accredited college or university Preferred Qualifications Graduate coursework in political science Experience teaching at a community college and/or the freshman and sophomore levels Experience using online classroom platforms (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) as a classroom support and learning tool Required conditions of employment: Successful completion of a criminal history background check prior to employment The Successful Candidate will Demonstrate Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment Commitment to equitable access, universal design for learning (UDL), and culturally relevant teaching practices Respect for diverse views and opinions in the classroom and workplace Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff from diverse backgrounds Commitment to student success and to instructional strategies that support underserved populations Ability to use non-traditional delivery methods as appropriate Competence to teach a variety of courses and to review and develop curriculum Effective classroom management and ability to facilitate discussions on differing viewpoints Commitment to educational technologies as an instructional aid Team orientation and willingness to participate in ongoing department and community work Commitment to professional growth Application Process

Salary ranges are per credit hour and subject to COLAs, with additional pay for lab or professional services where applicable. Placement on the faculty salary schedule is commensurate with education and experience per the 2024 Faculty Negotiated Agreement. Part-time faculty may become eligible for healthcare and retirement benefits after meeting eligibility requirements. A comprehensive health care benefits package may be provided if eligible. Evening and off-campus assignments may be part of the instructional load. Flexibility is required to meet department needs. Degrees must be from accredited institutions and verified for U.S. equivalency where applicable. International degrees will be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
