Location: 12901 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL, 33612 (Hybrid)

Job Description The Research Support Specialist will work primarily as a clinical research coordinator for a NIH-funded clinical trial comparing a Virtual Reality-based treatment for dog, snake, and spider phobias to traditional telehealth-based treatment. The trial will be conducted in the Innovation in Mental Health (iMH) Lab in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences under the supervision of Dr. Brian Bunnell, PhD (https://health.usf.edu/imhlab). The Research Support Specialist will coordinate all facets of the clinical trial protocol as outlined in the Primary Job Duties section below. This is a time-limited position.

This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Communicating study details to potential participants or the general public; coordinating recruitment efforts; communicating and coordinating meetings with study referral sources and study participants; screening potential study participants for eligibility criteria per established protocols; obtaining informed consent from potential project participants; assessing project participants per established protocols; randomizing project participants to their respective treatment condition; scheduling and communicating with project participants about weekly therapy sessions; communicating and coordinating with study therapists about appointments and scheduling; setting up and updating VR headsets; coordinating shipping of VR Headsets to and from project participants; ensuring study protocols are followed with high fidelity and reliability; ensuring governmental and university human subjects protection standards are followed during study processes.

Collecting data using standardized research protocols; entering data into various databases and programs; recording study activities; maintaining study logs; monitoring study participant progress; maintaining communication with study Principal Investigator about study activities and progress.

Assisting with drafting, submitting, and revising Institutional Review Board (IRB) study protocols; drafting standard operating procedure manuals, and training manuals; producing and presenting summaries, graphs, charts and tables from data; conducting literature searches.

Other research related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in office or administrative support or in research support. College education may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis. Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree.

SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

(a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;

(b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;

(c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;

(d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or

(e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Qualifications

Intermediate skill in general, day-to-day tasks and organization on computers (e.g., documentation, folder organization, video-conferencing).

Skill in phone and email communication, organization, and problem solving.
