Responsibilities

Acts as a receptionist on the unit, greeting and directing visitors and patients, and handling incoming calls. Ensure prompt, courteous communication between departments by scheduling tests, returning calls, and forwarding messages accurately. Respond to intercoms to ascertain patient needs and notify appropriate personnel for immediate response. Answer routine questions about hospital policy for patients and visitors. Screen telephone calls professionally, identifying name and unit. Notify the manager/charge nurse of admissions via admission notification beeper. Provide hand-off documentation to the covering Patient Care Technician (PCT) before breaks. Print and manage unit charts and forms, relocate patients in the electronic medical record as needed, and monitor printer output. Verify patient bed assignments and communicate discrepancies to Admitting. Notify physicians, nurses, and dietary staff of new admissions, transfers, or expirations in a timely manner. Enter patient dispositions in the electronic medical record (e.g., Discharge, AMA, Elope, Expired) and maintain patient identification accuracy. Make discharge and transfer arrangements, including ambulance services and special diets; prepare and maintain forms for patient records; and orient new Information Specialists. Sort and distribute mail, and provide shift-to-shift reports. Adhere to departmental policies, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Qualifications

Education: High school graduation or equivalent required; Associate degree/college credits preferred. Experience: 1 year of relevant clerical experience preferred. Skills: Must pass Information Specialist test; completed in-house training mandatory; basic Windows applications; strong English communication skills; ability to handle heavy/diverse workloads; good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Pay
