Adjunct Professor of Physics Unit Mission Statement:
The Department of Physics is comprised of 25 instructional faculty members and more than 15 physicists in research positions, and currently has three faculty members performing research in nuclear theory and four in nuclear experiment, all of whom maintain a close relationship with nearby Jefferson Lab. The nuclear theorists are members of the Theory Center at Jefferson Lab, which consists of 20 scientists, including bridged, joint, and lab staff members, as well as several postdocs.
Position Summary
The Department of Physics at William & Mary is recruiting a pool of persons for possible part-time adjunct teaching positions. This pool will be accessed ONLY when an opening arises. Your credentials will remain active as long as the pool position is available but no more than one year. After one year, if you are still interested, you must reapply to the current adjunct pool. Review of applications is ongoing.
Required Qualifications
Masters in Physics or a closely related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications
A PhD or appropriate terminal degree in physics or a related field is preferred at the time the candidate begins the appointment, May 25 for summer, August 10 for autumn, or January 10 for spring start dates. ABD in physics or a related field is acceptable at start date. Previous academic teaching experience is desirable.
Conditions of Employment
This is a restricted position, subject to the continued availability of funding. This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year. Arts & Sciences total adjunct work hours for part-time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed 1500 which equates up to 14 credit hours for Fall/Spring and up to 6 for Summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
