Overview
Assistant Club Manager (AMIT) at BJ’s Wholesale Club. The AMIT role provides leadership and direction within the club and drives club performance, especially in the departments they manage. The trainee prepares to assume one of three Assistant Club Manager positions: Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience, with focused development aligned to the designated track and eventual oversight of the corresponding departments. The role ensures consistent policy execution, a positive member service experience, GOLD club standards, and overall leadership and direction within the club. The AMIT also serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed and may require certifications as noted below. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained. May require yearly certification for a forklift license. In Florida, a qualifier certification through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for retail propane oversight is required. BJ’s covers applicable costs and training.

Responsibilities
Provide Strategic Department Leadership: Partner with the Club Manager to oversee daily operations across assigned departments (Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience) with focus on business acumen, accountability, team engagement, and flawless club standards execution. Recruit, Hire, and Onboard Team Members: Manage full hiring process for assigned departments, including interviewing, staffing decisions, onboarding, and certification to ensure capable team members. Oversee Labor Planning and Scheduling: Create and manage labor schedules aligned with trends and budgets; adjust coverage as needed. Drive Sales, Inventory Control, and Shrink Management: Lead operational processes to maintain in-stock conditions, minimize shrink, and drive sales through accurate inventory management. Champion Member Experience Standards: Model and enforce GAA, GOLD, and LAST service standards across departments. Execute Operational Readiness: Ensure departments are clean, stocked, and ready for business at start of day. Lead Department Talent Management: Conduct performance reviews, mentor leaders, support development programs and succession planning. Utilize Tools and Reporting for Decision-Making: Use club tools and dashboards to identify opportunities and drive results. Ensure Compliance and Safety: Enforce food safety, sanitation, OSHA, and related standards; lead audits and resolve issues. Support Special Initiatives: Plan and execute merchandising transitions, seasonal sets, and special projects with leadership coordination. Maintain Equipment and Facilities: Monitor and escalate equipment issues to ensure uninterrupted operations. Perform Cross-Functional Support: Provide leadership across departments as needed. Operate BJ’s MY WORK System: Execute daily tasks and initiatives via internal systems. Maintain Attendance: Demonstrate consistent presence as an essential function of the role.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations manager required. Strong drive for results, honesty, integrity, and commitment to high service levels. Excellent communication skills; ability to lead and motivate a large team. Solid understanding of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated leadership, cross-functional team management, training, and results delivery. Knowledge of store operations, membership, front-line, gas station, tire bay, maintenance, receiving, and omni procedures. Completion of company training program preferred. High school diploma and/or college degree preferred. Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Email); ServSafe certification required. Forklift operator certification required. Open shift availability required. Minimum age 18.
Job Conditions
Frequent movement on hard surfaces with occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. Regular lifting up to 30 pounds; heavier lifting with assistance as needed. Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises in perishable areas; exposure to cleaning agents.
Pay information: In accordance with pay transparency requirements, the estimated compensation range is starting from $69,500. Actual salaries vary by location, education, experience, and qualifications.
