Position Summary
Dr. Renate Lux, a Professor in the Section of Biosystems and Function at the UCLA School of Dentistry, is seeking a highly motivated Staff Research Associate I (SRA I). The SRA I will assist with daily research and laboratory support under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and/or senior lab personnel. Primary responsibilities include performing routine microbiology and molecular biology techniques (e.g., microbial culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR), preparing stock solutions and culture media, maintaining microbial stocks, and supporting basic data collection and analysis. The SRA I will maintain accurate records, contribute to general lab organization, ensure compliance with safety protocols, and assist with ordering and inventory.

Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of genetics, molecular biology and biochemical principles. (Required)
Experience with laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, incubators, biosafety cabinet hoods, PCR machines and electrophoresis apparatus. (Required)
Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft applications. (Required)
Ability and desire to work as part of a team and to work without technical supervision. (Required)
Familiarity with molecular techniques. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary. (Required)
Ability to create and maintain records accurately. (Required)
Ability to communicate effectively to convey experimental results; previous experience in a research environment. (Required)
Experience with basic bioinformatic analysis (DNA/RNA sequencing). (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor’s Degree in the life sciences with a background in microbiology, molecular biology, or equivalent. (Preferred)
