Job Summary
The Department of Cell Biology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor (12Month) Tenure Track. The successful candidate will:
Lead a cancer biology laboratory research program particularly relevant to cancers that disproportionately afflict marginalized and disenfranchised populations. Ensure research will be supported by robust extramural funding that will lead to consequential contributions to scholarship and advancements in biomedicine. Build synergies with current SUNY Downstate researchers and physicians in the Departments of Cell Biology, Medicine, Pathology and others; as well as in the School of Public Health, ultimately helping to make the institution more competitive for large collaborative institutional grants. Teach, train and mentor medical students in the College of Medicine, and MD/PhD and PhD graduate students in the School of Graduate Studies Molecular & Cellular Biology program.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral Degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent) in a discipline directly related to cancer biology. A range of scientific expertise including cell and molecular biology, genetics, quantitative approaches (genomics, etc.), preclinical disease models, and clinical/translational research involving human bio-specimens. Existing early-career grant funding that they will bring with them to Downstate (e.g., K99/R00 or other career development awards and foundation grants). High potential for substantial federal funding, an outstanding record of cancer biology research, and a dedicated commitment to scholarly mentorship. Expected to establish an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural federal funding.
