Overview
The Hematology and Oncology Division at VCU Health seeks a full-time NP or PA to join their multi-disciplinary team serving bone marrow transplant and cellular immunotherapies patients on the inpatient service. The APP will collaborate in providing care for patients undergoing stem cell transplant and cell therapies along with the complications of these procedures in the hospital. Shifts will be 12 hours in length with rotating day/night responsibilities. A successful candidate would demonstrate a high level of comfort working both in a multidisciplinary team and independently. Overnight the APP will act independently on the service and use the on-call attending as a resource. Responsibilities
Demonstrate mastery of treatment and patient care for the specialty population served. Coordinate patient care across the continuum of services through the patient’s trajectory of illness. Assess health status through histories and physicals, initiate screening, order or perform diagnostic tests, provide direct patient care, assist with surgical procedures, prescribe medications and counsel patients. Initiate emergency procedures as needed; practice safety, environmental and infection control methods. Take rounds with attending physicians as necessary; supervise/co‑ordinate activities of patient care and support staff. Document all pertinent information in the patient’s medical record; develop and implement short- and long-term treatment plans. Incorporate physical, spiritual, cultural and psychosocial aspects of patients and families to promote optimal health; communicate with the care team to ensure coordinated care. Assist with care coordination between primary and specialty services as needed. Consultation & Collaboration
Function as a consultant to other health care professionals regarding routine and unusual therapeutic interventions. Serve as liaison, translator and negotiator for staff, patients and families. Collaborate in developing, implementing, communicating and monitoring multi-disciplinary plans of care for complex patients. Provide patient education to patients, families or other caregivers; may train residents, fellows and other staff in the area of specialty. Participate in continual assessment and revision of practices and procedures; promote teamwork and effective communication within the team. Research & Ethics
Utilize current research to develop and evaluate standards of care for identified patient populations. Contribute to the profession through participation in research, publications, consultation and/or educational activities; support clinical trials within the specialty area. Apply clinical judgment in ethical decision making; promote interdisciplinary processes to resolve ethical dilemmas. Professional Development
Seek opportunities for professional growth; work collaboratively with physicians, allied health professionals and administration. Assess own learning needs and develop a plan for professional growth; participate in continuing education and teaching programs as needed. Maintain required certifications and privileges (VCU Health) as applicable. Miscellaneous
Perform other duties as assigned and participate in special projects to support the mission of VCU Health; assist team members and accept alternate assignments as required. Patient Population

Required Education:
Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife or Physician Assistant Program Preferred Education:
Service-specific education Licensure/Certification Required:
Current Virginia licensure from the appropriate Board as a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant; current national certification as appropriate for the role; credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job titles; current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications such as ACLS and PALS may be determined at the department level Licensure/Certification Preferred:
