About The Role
The Indirect Tax Specialist will assist the tax department with sales and use tax filing and compliance responsibilities. Duties will also include tax planning, research, and audit management.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and file various state and local sales and use tax returns, supported by detailed financial data analysis Maintain adequate work papers supporting the sales and use tax filings Process sales & use tax payments and operator billings with coordination from various accounting teams Own the reconciliation process for sales and use tax general ledger accounts Manage sales tax registrations, renewals, and cancellations across jurisdictions Review current tax processes and procedures for efficiencies and compliance. Research best practices to ensure we maintain full compliance and make recommendations to management. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for internal sales and use tax inquiries and provide guidance based on current state and local tax regulations Maintain comprehensive tax exemption records inclusive of resale certifications Contribute to strategic tax projects with high visibility and cross-functional collaboration Monitor new tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance across the portfolio Receive and manage all tax notices from state and local authorities. Responsible for creating an action plan to resolve any issues while keeping the tax department informed of potential risk and recommending solutions for mitigating those risks. Defending sales and use tax audits, including obtaining supporting documentation, preparing schedules to support tax positions, and researching sales/use tax audit issues

TRAVEL
Some out of area and overnight travel may be expected.
Minimum Requirements
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in an indirect tax related role. Experience with tax compliance, audits, research, and working with Yardi or similar ERP system is preferred. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products, primarily excel and adobe is preferred as well as experience with a tax preparation software such as OneSource or Vertex.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or an equivalent field is required. CMI designation or future pursuit of CMI designation is a preferred.
