The EM Edge Economics team is seeking a junior economist based in New York. This role offers exposure to frontier economies, primarily in Central America and the Caribbean, and requires a strong understanding of macroeconomic data and forecasting techniques. As part of a team ranked first in all categories of the Extel survey, you will contribute to award-winning research and actionable ideas for our clients.
Job responsibilities
Analyze macro and fundamental drivers of covered economies, producing regular research and deep-dive reports
Create and maintain models and analytical tools for frontier economies
Collaborate with global economists to deliver forward-looking forecasts and commentary
Liaise with local markets (rates and FX) and credit strategists
Interact with external institutional clients and assist internal sales and trading teams
Organize investor trips, conferences, webinars, and maintain external relationships to enhance research efforts
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
1-3 years of financial services experience (global markets, fixed income, or economics) covering frontier economies
Master’s degree in economics or finance preferred
Solid economic background and knowledge of political/economic developments in Latin America
Strong quantitative skills with proven ability to build macro-models; proficiency in spreadsheets and statistical programming (EViews, R, Python)
Excellent written and oral communication skills (Spanish is an advantage)
Intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, and team player mentality
Adaptability and ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Experience with business writing and communication for research publications
Exposure to global macro developments beyond Latin America
Ability to organize and lead investor events and maintain external relationships
Experience collaborating across regions and teams
