About the Role:
As a
Staff Accountant I , GAAP Financial Reporting is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This role supports monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, assists with external audits, and provides timely, accurate reporting to support management decision-making and regulatory compliance.
The Staff Accountant position reports to the Supervisory Accountant and will be based out of our Overland Park, Kansas office. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.
Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Compile supporting schedules for internal and external financial reporting.
Partner with cross-functional teams to gather financial data and ensure accuracy of reported results.
Support external audit process by preparing workpapers and responding to auditor inquiries.
Assist in maintaining and updating accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Research and interpret GAAP accounting guidance for new or unusual transactions.
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
Assist with reporting and ledger close requirements associated with our broker/dealer.
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
0-2 + years of accounting experience, preferably in public accounting or financial reporting.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP principles and practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-orientation with commitment to accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.
CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
