Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opportunity for a Senior Commercial Sourcing Advisor within SC-Midstream-TRM (Transport, Rail & Marine). This position will be based out of the San Antonio, TX, or Findlay, OH office. The Commercial Sourcing Advisor’s primary responsibility is to support the development, management, and execution of strategic contracting initiatives for its Rail Operations. This role provides a commercial advisory function to minimize risk in supply chain processes that support business operations and strategy development. The successful candidate should be a self-starter with strong contract experience, able to establish strategic business relationships with key suppliers, and capable of working in a dynamic environment with both planned and unplanned needs. This role supports the Midstream segment within MPLX, MPC’s sponsored master limited partnership, which transports, stores, distributes and markets crude oil and refined products via refining logistics assets, pipelines, terminals, towboats, and barges; gathers, processes and transports natural gas; and gathers, transports, fractions, stores and markets natural gas liquids. Key Responsibilities
Develop contracting strategies to establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and ensure service, commercial terms, and strategy optimization. Lead the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and provide decision summaries based on sourcing events and negotiation outcomes. Lead the preparation and negotiation of terms and conditions related to service and/or supply agreements. Manage related rate sheets and ensure cost competitiveness across vendor categories within the enterprise and across the industry. Serve in an advisory role to maintain contract compliance and minimize risk in support of key stakeholders and business units. Act as a liaison between legal and stakeholders, maintain master agreements, and initiate contract amendments to frame agreements on behalf of the supported business unit. Coach business unit contract owners to drive performance and compliance of contracts. Foster communication internally, externally, and between different operational functions. Serve as the first line point of contact for operating needs, concerns, and Supply Chain support. Actively seek and identify opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction. Develop and execute cost savings and strategic sourcing projects while ensuring business continuity and supplier performance. Collaborate with Rail Operations to assess requirements and develop contracting strategies. Support the development, management, and execution of commercial initiatives and strategies. Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure service, commercial terms, and optimal leverage. Develop and track KPIs for measuring supplier performance as needed, and facilitate issue resolution related to supplier performance. Comprehend and interpret commercial, financial, and business data for opportunities and risk. Minimize risk in supply chain processes to support operating components’ service requirements, including recognizing contracting strategies and qualifying contractors. Lead bid package process from development through purchase order execution and align stakeholder and Supply Chain requirements, scope of work, assumptions and clarifications. Participate in vendor pre-bid meetings and site walks, leading the commercial aspects and setting expectations outlined in the RFP. Run benchmark studies, gather and analyze data, and make recommendations. Perform root cause analysis related to supply challenges or disruptions. Analyze and interpret data for decision-making, including total cost of ownership and should-cost modeling. Utilize Supply Chain tools, templates and systems as prescribed. Collaborate with Supply Chain peers to drive continuous improvement, alignment, and best-in-class process optimization. Ensure sourcing activities are aligned with the expectations of Supply Chain organizations and stakeholder groups, educate and support deployment of best practices. Experience with SAP, Ariba, Tableau, M365, TRACK. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred. Four (4) or more years of Supply Chain or business-relevant experience. Travel up to 20%. Experience in Contracts Management. Experience with Rail Operations and/or possessing a Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred. Skills/Competencies
