Job Summary The Assistant Bursar supports the overall operations of the Office of the Bursar by assisting in managing student accounts, collections, and cashiering functions for Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC). This position ensures accuracy and compliance in financial transactions and reporting while maintaining a high standard of customer service to students, parents, and campus partners.

The Assistant Bursar exercises sound judgment and technical expertise to resolve complex account issues, implement process improvements, and represent the department in meetings and collaborative initiatives. The role also involves coordination with external partners, including working one day per week at Clayton State University as part of a shared service arrangement.

The position supervises a cashier and student workers, providing leadership in the day-to-day management of receivables, payment processing, and reconciliation activities. The Assistant Bursar supports fiscal planning, monitoring, and policy implementation to ensure efficient business operations within the Student Accounts area.

Responsibilities

Manages bursary and cashiering operations related to student registration, billing drop for nonpayment and reinstatement the daily feed between Banner and PeopleSoft Financial software.

Complete daily processing of student account transactions and post to the general ledger.

Prepares the weekly refund file/process student refunds.

Assist with fee rules and assessment, systems implementation and maintenance.

Complete submodule reconciliations and reporting.

Manage third party contract and billing.

Manage student health insurance program.

Hire, train, assign, direct, evaluate and manage cashier and student worker positions.

Serve as backup/leadership support for other departments.

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree

Required Experience

Three (3) years of related experience

Must have valid Georgia Driver's License or the ability to travel to other institutions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college employees, vendors, students, University System of Georgia representatives, representatives of collection agencies, and members of the general public; they are typically provided to give or exchange information or resolve areas of opportunity or concern.
