Overview
EECU is looking for a
Direct Lending Jr. Underwriter
who will be responsible for making thorough loan decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Central Lending plays a key role in the credit union’s loan decision process by supporting the review and analysis of consumer loan applications across retail branches and online delivery channels.
Responsibilities
Evaluate consumer loan products including vehicle loans, personal loans, and credit card requests (excluding real estate).
Leverage AI-supported underwriting tools to assess creditworthiness, risk, and compliance with lending policies and regulations.
Work within the Loan Origination System (LOS) –
MeridianLink
– and the core system platform –
Symitar
– to process, review, and document loan decisions.
Review and analyze credit reports, income verification, collateral valuation, loan documentation, and overall risk exposure.
Recommend or approve loans within assigned authority; escalate to senior underwriters as needed.
Communicate loan decisions, conditions, and required documentation clearly with frontline staff.
Collaborate with branch employees and digital teams to ensure timely, efficient member service.
Stay current through ongoing training on AI underwriting tools, lending policy updates, and compliance requirements.
Provide guidance to members by offering alternative credit solutions when disputes or declined decisions arise.
Assist membership base with disputes by providing optional credit avenues if loan decision grants alterations.
Qualifications & Skills
1–2 years' experience in consumer lending, loan processing, or financial services.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Must be knowledgeable of credit union products and services.
Decision-making expertise.
Interpersonal skills, effective communication and written skills, along with strong time-management skills.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
Dependable and punctual.
High school degree or equivalent is required with a college degree or business-related education preferred.
Must be available: Monday–Friday 7am–7pm, Saturdays 8:30am–2:15pm. Weekly rotating shifts.
EECU will, in compliance with applicable laws, evaluate an applicant's credit history. Only applicants with good credit history will be considered for open positions.
Responsible for compliance with all Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining to but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Bribery Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, Reg B, Reg Z, Service Members Civil Relief, and FCRA/FACTA. Required to attend initial and ongoing annual Bank Secrecy Act training.
