As a Staff Accountant, you are responsible for supporting the accounting function by preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records. This position ensures the integrity of the general ledger through daily transaction reviews, monthly close activities, and periodic roll-forwards. This role is key in preparing schedules and supporting documentation for financial reporting, audits, and compliance requirements, while adhering to GAAP and established internal controls. What You Will Do In This Role Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, allocations, and amortizations. Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts such as prepaids, accruals, and fixed assets. Maintain and reconcile prepaid expense schedules; record monthly amortization entries and ensure balances are accurate and properly supported. Track, monitor, and reconcile capital project expenditures; prepare supporting schedules and assist in ensuring proper capitalization in accordance with accounting policies. Support fixed asset accounting by tracking acquisitions through Sage fixed asset module, disposals, and depreciation schedules. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by preparing reconciliations and supporting documentation. Monitor general ledger activity for accuracy and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Compile and maintain accurate supporting documentation in accordance with audit and compliance requirements. Assist in preparation of year-end audit work papers and provide documentation as requested by auditors. Ensure compliance with GAAP and established internal control procedures. Collaborate with accounting team members to support timely and accurate financial reporting. Prepares calculation of entrance fee refunds and termination income related to deferred revenue activity. Completes deferred revenue monthly entries and reports occupancy and turnover. Prepares reconciliation of monthly investment activity. Processes request of funds for use of Charitable funds and prepares monthly transfer. Functions in back-up capacity for various Finance functions including accounts payable, purchasing, etc. Performs bank reconciliation for multiple bank accounts to include credit card transactions and zero balance accounts. Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis by providing supporting data and explanations. Collaborate with department managers to obtain supporting documentation and resolve questions regarding financial transactions. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance Required: At least two years of related work experience Preferred: Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and experience in fund accounting is a plus.
