Overview
Righteous Felon is seeking an experienced and innovative Controller to lead the accounting, financial strategy, reporting, and planning for our fast-growing snack portfolio. This role is ideal for a finance leader with 7+ years of experience in the Food & Beverage manufacturing sector, who thrives at the intersection of data, systems, and strategic insight. You will be accountable for everything from high-level forecasting and board reporting to inventory valuation and factory yield measurement. A successful candidate will be deeply proficient in QuickBooks Online (current system), NetSuite (future system), Excel, and PowerPoint, and possess an active passion for AI, with a drive to integrate emerging tools into forecasting, cost modeling, and operational dashboards. You’ll collaborate closely with manufacturing copackers to ensure systematic cost and yield tracking, margin accuracy, and scalable controls across the value chain. Core Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial closes. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including internal dashboards and board-level financial presentations. Ensure accounting data integrity and compliance across systems (QuickBooks Online currently; NetSuite future state), including reconciliations, controls, and audit readiness. Maintain daily cash flow oversight, including disbursements, collections, and liquidity forecasting. ERP Migration
Lead accounting migration: own and manage all accounting aspects of the transition from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and minimal disruption. Process design & testing: map financial data, refine workflows, and oversee testing and reconciliation to validate integrity across GL, AP/AR, and inventory modules. Training & post-go-live support: document new procedures, train staff, and drive adoption while optimizing reporting and internal controls post-launch. Financial Strategy & Planning
Lead financial strategy across all business functions, including multi-year forecasting, annual budgeting, and scenario planning to support company-wide objectives. Develop and own financial models and frameworks that evaluate margin scenarios, capital investments, and new product initiatives. Partner with executive leadership to define strategic financial goals, ensure alignment with operational KPIs, and guide data-driven decision-making. Margin Management & Commercial Finance
Collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain, and Operations to guide pricing strategies, vendor negotiations, and promotional planning with the goal of driving sustainable margin expansion. Analyze and optimize margin performance by channel and product category, including detailed review of cost inputs such as raw materials, packaging, labor, and logistics. Lead margin improvement initiatives, identifying key cost levers and performance-enhancing opportunities across the P&L. Costing & Inventory Management
Work closely with manufacturing partners to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and yield analysis at the SKU level. Implement standard costing and real-time inventory tracking within NetSuite to drive cost transparency and operational efficiency. Continuously evaluate and refine cost structures, including BOMs, freight, warehousing, and third-party processing fees. Finance Technology, Automation & AI
Identify and deploy AI and automation tools to enhance forecasting accuracy, streamline reporting, and build real-time dashboards. Leverage technology to improve financial workflows, including automation within NetSuite and efficiency upgrades in Excel-based modeling. Build and lead a high-performance finance and accounting team, emphasizing operational excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and results ownership. Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and systems thinking, with a focus on scalable processes and continuous improvement. Additional Duties
Protect company assets and inventory through strong checks, reconciliations, and vendor oversight. Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and compliance professionals to maintain financial integrity. Support due diligence and integration for M&A activity, licensing, or strategic partnerships. Develop and manage product P&Ls at the SKU level, including new product development cost modeling. Provide financial coaching to internal teams on budgeting, spend optimization, and metrics literacy. Evaluate make-vs-buy and vendor sourcing decisions based on ROI and cost modeling. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Role Expertise: Demonstrates critical technical or professional knowledge/skills related to the role. Problem Solving: Identify causes and develop multiple explanations or alternatives. Initiative & Organization: Be proactive, organized, and accountable. Planning & Objective Setting: Develop actionable plans with milestones and controls. Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting/controllership experience in Food & Beverage or CPG manufacturing. Deep expertise in QuickBooks and NetSuite ERP, especially inventory, costing, and financial reporting; experience leading a systems migration a plus. Advanced Excel modeling, PowerPoint for board storytelling; VBA/macros a plus. Passion for AI and next-generation finance technologies.
