Job Description What is the opportunity? The Senior Manager, Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Operational Risk role will report to Director, Operational Risk, and assist the Director with the development and implementation of 2LOD Operational Risk oversight programs, processes and reports for RBC Bank (Georgia). The Senior Manager shares the responsibility of the implementation and maintenance of the Operational Risk Framework throughout RBC Bank, while ensuring alignment with the Combined US Operations (CUSO) and RBC-wide operational risk management (ORM) strategy, including articulation of the operational risk profile and risk appetite for RBC Bank.

Responsibilities

Support the Management of the Operational Risk Oversight Program and Practices

Participate in the management and oversight of ORM policies, standards, processes and tools for all operational risk management programs

Perform objective assessment on the output of business’s First Line of Defense (1LOD) execution of Internal Controls Management, Risk and Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA), Internal Operational Risk Event Management or other ORM requirements

Collaborate with 1LOD to assess external events and provide oversight and challenge, and subject matter expertise to understand operational risk event experience relative to industry peers as well as the external event’s potential impact if it were to occur at RBC Bank

Collaborate with Centers of Governance across CUSO and RBC Enterprise on objective assessment results

Communicate to 1LOD, instances where quality and sufficiency of ORM activities, or the soundness of their outputs, are inadequate so that corrective actions can be taken

Provide information about the outcomes of objective assessment, through escalation and reporting, to Senior Management and / or the Board

Support the management of RBC Bank Group Risk Management control inventory and monitor the timely execution of the Risk owned controls

Supports the team in ensuring timely / active management and resolution of issues, either self-identified or identified by other parties

Execute reviews of operational risk programs to ensure they continue to be appropriate based on emerging risk trends, thematic risks, and regulatory changes. Recommend new or revised assessments and advise unit management on mitigation strategies

Support Director, Operational Risk with documenting Operational Risk report

Participate in operational risk reviews and feedback on the operational risk impact of major change initiatives, process improvements and transformational projects

Support a strong culture of risk and integrity through effective challenge and deep partnership with all three lines of defense to promote transparency of risks and matters requiring escalation

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience

6-8 years previous work experience in banking or financial services industry

Strong knowledge of operational risk practices

Nice-to-haves

Previous experience working with retail lending products and securities-based lending products

Operational Risk Certification Operational Risk Certification is required for this role
