The Production Underwriter, Specialty E&S at Lucid Insurance Group plays a vital role in driving the company’s revenue growth objectives, managing agent and broker relationships, and writing profitable business for our carriers. We are seeking an experienced and results‑driven Production Underwriter to join our growing Specialty E&S team. This role is responsible for underwriting, pricing, and managing the book of business within assigned territories while maintaining strong relationships with agents and brokers.

As part of a team focused on driving efficiency and delivering exceptional service in a fast‑paced environment, this role requires the ability to handle a high volume of opportunities. The role will make decisions regarding risk acceptability and pricing with the information provided from our agent & broker partners as approved within their authority limits and to achieve overall profitability.

Responsibilities

Develop, manage, and grow a profitable book of business by underwriting new and renewal accounts within delegated authority.

Analyze and assess risk exposures, coverage needs, and loss trends to make informed underwriting decisions. Responsible for risk acceptability, quality, pricing, and profitability per departmental objectives.

Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers, agents, and distribution partners to drive business opportunities.

Follow underwriting triggers, create risk analysis through file reviews, and order risk management surveys per guidelines as it pertains to any individual risk assessment.

Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions while ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and company risk appetite. Maintain compliance within insurance regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.

Maintain working knowledge on specific territory or states’ rules, regulations, and marketplace nuances, such as industry bureau updates, carrier and industry knowledge, and any rating manual updates.

Provide responsive and professional customer service, including presenting renewal proposals and explaining underwriting decisions.

Conduct ongoing analysis of assigned territory, agency performance, and industry trends to identify areas for growth and profitability.

Monitor portfolio performance, retention, and loss ratios, recommending actions to improve profitability.

Review and approve endorsements, policy changes, and cancellations within authority levels.

Utilize underwriting tools and systems to ensure accurate documentation, risk selection, and pricing. Maintain complete and up‑to‑date documentation of decision making and store key documents within internal systems as appropriate per underwriting guidelines.

Support business development initiatives, identifying and pursuing new market opportunities within the specialty E&S space.

Contribute to process improvements, underwriting innovation, and automation initiatives.

Foster a collaborative work environment between all other departments and/or vendors, such as business development, compliance & regulatory, actuary, billing, loss control and risk management, customer service, claims management, and policy management to ensure business objectives are being met.

Participate in marketing activities, including agency visits, industry conferences, and presentations to promote company capabilities.

Contribute to the overall company vision, mission, and culture to drive the results of our value proposition for agents, brokers, policyholders, carrier partners, vendor relationships, employees, and co‑workers.

Conduct and execute other company‑issued projects as assigned or requested by Management.

Qualifications

Minimum 3+ years of experience in underwriting, preferably within E&S and/or wholesale brokerage.

Strong technical underwriting expertise in Property, General Liability, and Surplus Lines products.

Proven ability to analyze risks, assess exposures, and make sound underwriting decisions.

High‑level interpersonal, communication, analytical, and presentation skills.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.

Planning and organizational skills, where you can break down complex accounts or situations, provide details and/or data to identify possible solutions, and track progress of results.

Strong knowledge of rating methodologies, coverage forms, and/or regulatory compliance.

Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and capable of managing a book of business with minimal supervision.

Proficiency in underwriting systems, CRM tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Ability to travel as needed for agency visits, industry events, and market development.
