Overview
Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services – accountability for advising clients on the tax implications of business objectives, evaluating actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and serving as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role contributes to the office/region leadership team and participates in marketing, networking and business development while maintaining client relationships. Job Duties
Tax Compliance: ensure clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensure firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) are followed; conduct top-level review of tax returns and resolve issues; communicate issues identified in tax accrual reviews; plan for early recognition of material tax issues and coordinate with client/partner; manage client relationships and expectations; advise clients in a timely manner; plan and review tax processes including budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagement progress, timing of billing, and collection of A/R. Research: identify when research is needed; frame issues clearly and report analysis; designate complex issues for the engagement team and provide research methodology; train managers/staff on research skills; involve firm specialists as appropriate. ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: apply Firm policies and TQM; apply ASC 740-10; review tax provisions; may review workpapers; explain components of income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients. Tax Consulting: develop and implement efficient methods to maximize client benefits by reducing current and future taxes; combine tax knowledge with business/industry context; coordinate with STS specialists when applicable; monitor implementation of client service plans; manage inquiries from federal and state agencies; provide assistance with protests at the appeals level; implement Firm strategies; manage client expectations. Tax Specialization: develop in-depth understanding of one or more tax areas (e.g., individual, corporate, state/local, international, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, etc.); may organize or participate in external CPE training; mentor and train others in specialization areas. Strategy Development: develop new or improved ideas to improve client and Firm position; research and implement tax strategies; suggest improvements to prior work products; may present complex strategies to clients. Other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise associates and senior associates; review work and provide feedback; train on current software tools; may act as Career Advisor; provide verbal and written performance feedback. Education and Qualifications
Bachelors degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred. Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. Experience
Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience; prior supervisory experience required; industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred. License/Certifications
CPA, Attorney (admitted in U.S. jurisdiction) or Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) required; other related certifications preferred. Software
Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software preferred. Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Superior verbal and written communication; strong delegation, analytical, research and decision-making skills; ability to work in a team; ability to lead a tax professional team; ability to draft tax advice; ability to maintain client relationships; executive presence as primary client contact for issues and resolutions. Salary and Benefits
Individual salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Salary ranges by location include: California $136,000-$165,000; Colorado $115,000-$165,000; Illinois $120,000-$139,000; Maryland $121,000-$145,000; Massachusetts $130,000-$147,750; Minnesota $100,000-$130,000; New Jersey $130,000-$165,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester $170,000-$185,000; Washington $131,400-$160,000; Washington, DC $140,000-$162,000.
