The
Senior Database Administrator III
is responsible for the health, performance, and maintenance of all MS SQL Server instances, including on-premises SQL Server instances and Azure SQL Databases. As the organization transitions toward a more Azure-native infrastructure, this role will evolve. The ideal candidate will be adaptable and proactive in embracing this shift.
This role also provides Level 1 support for our Oracle databases. The Senior Database Administrator III reports to the Vice President of Data Services.
Primary Responsibilities Maintenance
Conduct upgrades and apply patches
Perform backup & restore requests and object-level data refreshes
Maintain documentation of database systems and procedures
Manage and resolve ticket requests
Maintain SQL Server linked servers and SSRS environment
Manage user security in Entra/AD and SQL Server
Troubleshooting
Identify and resolve SQL Server job failures
Communication
Collaborate with Support and Application Development teams
Participate in walk-throughs and design sessions
Update ticketing system
Coordinate with Oracle support partners for cluster maintenance
Uptime
Monitor production MS SQL and Oracle instances using built-in tools, Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager, and Oracle EOM
Proactively address issues before they impact systems
Change Control
Enforce ticketing protocols for object promotion
Assist in developing and implementing change control systems
Personal Development & Additional Responsibilities
Stay current with industry trends and best practices
Maintain and grow relevant technical skills
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Experience Requirements
4–7 years of experience in database administration
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science preferred
Complex backup and recovery processes
SQL, including PL/SQL and T-SQL
Database performance optimization
Experience as a Microsoft Service Administrator required
Skilled in performance tuning, backup/recovery methods, and SQL Server architecture
Familiarity with SQL Server patching
Experience with Azure SQL Database and a willingness to grow with a cloud-first strategy
Ability to adapt to evolving infrastructure and contribute to modernization efforts
