GFT is seeking a
Traffic Civil Engineer
to join our Ohio Transportation Team and support a variety of design and planning projects in the Midwest region. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of our Ohio offices: Columbus, Akron, Cleveland, or Youngstown. Working on the transportation team at GFT offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and community connectivity, including highways, bridges, and multimodal roadway systems.
Location: Columbus, OH; Akron, OH; Cleveland, OH; Youngstown, OH. Core business hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Employment status: Full-Time.
What You’ll Be Challenged To Do The ideal candidate will have significant experience and demonstrated technical excellence in planning, organization, and completion of traffic studies, projects, and concept development of interchange projects for a variety of clients, particularly states and municipalities. Projects include signing and pavement marking design, traffic signal and lighting design, maintenance of traffic design, and planning studies related to traffic impact, safety, capacity, and simulation modeling. The primary team is the Midwest traffic group.
Responsibilities include:
Acts as a Project Engineer for assigned tasks, keeping tasks on budget and delivering results.
Provide team mentorship; plan, organize, and delegate work of junior engineers and technicians.
Provide input to supervisor on scope and fee for proposal tasks; serve as a technical specialist in traffic engineering.
Keeps abreast of new methods and developments to inform program changes or new programs.
Ensure client satisfaction and adherence to quality processes/methods.
Conduct field work for traffic data collection (counts, speed studies, sight distance, delay, gap studies, etc.).
Prepare plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates for traffic engineering components (e.g., intersection geometry, signing/marking, signals, ITS, lighting, work zone).
Oversee traffic safety studies, traffic impact studies, and planning studies.
Education | Experience What You Will Bring To Our Firm
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
Licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio, or eligible to obtain licensure in the next six months
Minimum of 4 years' professional experience
Knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, Highway Capacity Manual, ITE Trip Generation Manual
Knowledge of ODOT design standards and guidelines
Proficiency with design software (Bentley OpenRoads Designer, SignCAD, ProjectWise, AutoCAD Civil 3D)
Knowledge of capacity analysis software (Synchro, HCS)
Knowledge of microsimulation software (Transmodeler, VISSIM)

Compensation The salary range for this role is $82,000 - $120,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
