Job Summary

The Professional Counselor demonstrates commitment to the University's mission and diverse student population by assisting students in reaching optimal wellness through direct clinical and targeted preventative services. Provides individual, couples, and group counseling to enrolled ASU students experiencing personal adjustment, vocational, financial, spiritual, physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and/or psychological issues. Provides consultation and preventative, educational outreach programming to the campus community. Provides on-call crisis coverage in rotation with clinical staff and assessment/triage as needed. Utilizes a student-centered approach in clinical services, outreach, and programming that promotes positive mental health, wellness, student success, and a healthy campus climate.

Responsibilities

Conduct client intake interviews and on-going sessions. Provide direct clinical services including individual, couples, and structured group counseling/therapy using Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) to a diverse range of enrolled students. Review medical records, psychological evaluations, and/or educational plans as needed. Provide on-call crisis coverage in rotation with other clinical staff. Provide crisis intervention services including threat assessments/triage for students who may present with suicidal or homicidal IPI and navigate the continuum of care as needed. Provide links with other campus departments and community partners for student referrals and consultation as appropriate within ethical guidelines. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and build community partnerships. Plan, design, and implement educational outreach programming and professional training to the Albany State University community on various topics surrounding mental health and wellness. Maintain compliance with Department policies and procedures. Provide consultations to faculty and staff working with students who have academic, behavioral, emotional, and/or psychological challenges. Participate in professional development through self-directed professional reading, webinars, workshops, conferences, seminars, and/or training as required by the Director of Counseling and Student Accessibility Services and/or Vice President of Student Affairs. Participate in student/parent sessions and resource fairs during New Student Orientation (NSO). Obtain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required by state licensing and regulatory boards. Perform additional duties as assigned by Director or Vice President of Student Affairs to support the goals and mission of the Department, Division, and University.

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in a mental health discipline (I.e., counseling, social work, marriage & family therapy, vocational/rehabilitation counseling, clinical/counseling psychology) or a related field is required.

One (1) year of job-related work experience.

Supervised experience which may include graduate internship and/or practicum.

Licensed as a LPC, LCSW, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist in the state of Georgia or be license eligible and obtain License within six (6) months of start date.

Preferred Qualifications

Full, unrestricted license as an LPC, LCSW or LMFT in the state of Georgia preferred.

Two (2) to three (3) years or more work experience highly desirable.

Previous Experience Working With College Students Preferred.

Experience working in higher education in a university counseling center is highly desirable.

Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Proficiency with computers and computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic mail (email).

Proficiency with various office equipment (I.e., telephones, copy/scan/fax machines, calculators, etc.)

Proficiency in providing telehealth services.

Ability to manage a caseload of individual, couples, and group therapy clients.

Ability to establish and maintain a strong therapeutic alliance with clients.

Ability to utilize and interpret a wide range of assessment instruments.

Ability to develop appropriate treatment plans/interventions.

Ability to document clinical interactions using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

Ability to provide clinical assessments of students who are a danger to self or others and to make treatment decisions based on assessments.

Ability to remain calm and diplomatic in the face of stressful situations.

Ability to maintain confidential and secure sensitive information.

Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.

Ability to plan, design, and implement preventative outreach programming surrounding mental health and wellness to campus and community stakeholders.

Ability to manage the fast-paced environment of meeting the mental health, wellness, and programming needs of the students and campus community.

Ability to empathize and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
