Summary The Office of Defense Services seeks a highly motivated, organized, and enthusiastic Investigator to fill a full-time role within the Kent County Unit based at the Dover office. This position is responsible for directly assisting assigned attorneys by investigating and obtaining statements from witnesses and the defendant for the preparation of cases for ultimate resolution consistent with the applicable facts and laws.

Essential Functions

Conduct investigations, which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence, and documenting findings.

Interview clients, witnesses, and others.

Verify claims of alleged or probable violations.

Examine various records and documents in order to ascertain relevant information.

Gather, control, and evaluate evidence.

Make judgments after evaluating all available facts and recommend appropriate action.

Interpret and apply applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

Prepare various investigative reports.

Testify before boards, commission, administrative bodies or courts.

May conduct surveillance and undercover investigations.

Conduct in-person, telephone, and virtual interviews.

Assist clients in completing eligibility forms.

Enter information into a case management database.

Job Requirements

Possession of an associate’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice or a related field.

Minimum five years law enforcement experience.

One year of experience in planning, developing, coordination, and implementing investigations.

Two years’ experience in conducting investigations which may include conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence, and documenting findings.

Two years’ experience in collecting, evaluating, and analyzing relevant information to make recommendations on alleged or probable violations of state or federal laws, rules, and regulations.

One year of experience in civil or criminal proceedings such as obtaining subpoenas or search warrants, making arrests or providing testimony.

One year experience in determining compliance with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

One year experience in narrative report writing.

One year experience in providing testimony before boards, commissions, administrative bodies, or court officials.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Proficient in all internal and external computer programs related to job duties, including but not limited to: SharePoint, Word, Outlook, JIC, DELJIS, and E-Filing (desired not essential).
