JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitor Observation -

Continuously observes and accurately recognizes actionable conditions on the cardio-respiratory and video monitors. Detects changes from patient baseline and reports to caregiver. Systematically scans and interprets screens. Distinguishes artifact from valid waveforms and differentiates life-threatening changes. Ensures timely caregiver response to alarm situations. Validates alarm settings according to age specifications or orders with RN caregiver each shift. Participates in daily review with clinical staff and maintains ongoing documentation of monitor patterns during MRT/code situations. Monitors sound levels and intervenes in real time to promote a healing environment. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to reduce noise levels. Orchestrates home video connections for families per guidelines. Provides thorough report to covering individuals." Customer Service -

Demonstrates CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively providing front-line exemplary customer service and satisfaction; interacts with parents/guardians to obtain non-clinical information as requested. Communication -

Promptly and effectively communicates significant cardiopulmonary events or safety risks to RN/RT. Keeps audio station open during emergencies and responds to requests. Seeks counsel from clinical staff if alarm parameters need alteration. Gives report to covering individuals. Reports current status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change-of-shift summaries. Documents information appropriately in the patient medical record. Utilizes SBAR when communicating alarm status and patient status. Responds to phone calls and messages in a clear and timely manner. Compliance -

Maintains understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Supports leadership to meet regulatory compliance efforts. Monitors safety and department policies. Ensures certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled timely. Shares best practices in safety with department managers and magnet representatives. Ensures timeliness, accuracy, availability and security of information (HIPAA, Informed Consent, Advanced Directive for patients 18 or older) as defined by policy and law. Fosters HIPAA knowledge in clinical practice. Patient Care -

Participates in planning and implementing patient care as designated by department and/or licensed personnel. Supervises developmentally appropriate activities. Integrates age-specific and culturally inclusive concepts into care. Uses crisis intervention techniques and assists in de-escalation of visitors. Assists with patient transport as needed. Environment -

Follows safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and developmental levels. Reports malfunctioning equipment and environmental hazards immediately. Keeps information systems and equipment issues organized and follows up as needed. Keeps Clinical Engineering informed of monitor malfunctions. Maintains stock and storage of supplies and anticipates needs. Ensures safe, accessible and efficient work areas. Remains compliant with infection control policies and procedures and attends required safety trainings (e.g., radiation safety, laboratory safety, blood borne pathogens, OSHA). Fiscal Responsibility -

Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to patient charges and charge capture. Performs duties related to charging and reconciling charges as assigned. Administrative Support -

Responds to alarms and communications with urgency. Answers phones, assembles charts and stocks clerical supplies. Regulatory Standards -

Complies with policies protecting patient rights for informed consent and handling of confidential information. Respects confidentiality of patients, families and employees. Exchanges appropriate patient care information as needed. Learning and Development -

Participates in staff meetings, required inservices, unit and hospital activities and committees. Seeks information and guidance when needed. JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: Related hospital experience Listed on the State of OH STNA registry OR has been an EMT or Paramedic Completion of Cincinnati Children's orientation and CPR certification Completion of the CCHMC Monitor Tech Class with passing written exam and competency demonstration Listed on Ohio STNA registry or Ohio CNA; if CNA is in another state, reciprocity within 180 days of hire OR listed on Ohio EMS Registry Preferred: Basic EKG interpretation skills Primary Location
