Take charge of proofreading, editing, and finalizing legal documents and memoranda.

Manage e-filing and calendaring of court deadlines.

Handle a variety of clerical and administrative duties essential to the success of each case.

Perform other key assignments as related to the role.

Position Information The Department of the Corporation Counsel is seeking detail-oriented legal clerks to support its attorneys in representing the City. As a key team member, you will:

Take charge of proofreading, editing, and finalizing legal documents and memoranda.

Manage e-filing and calendaring of court deadlines.

Handle a variety of clerical and administrative duties essential to the success of each case.

Perform other key assignments as related to the role.

Salary and Levels Level II (SR-12) $3,748 - $4,563/month:

Independently perform moderately difficult legal clerical work in a law office, with more difficult tasks done under supervision on a progressively responsible basis.

Level II (SR-14) $4,054 - $4,933/month:

Independently perform the full range of legal clerical work, including the more difficult assignments, in support of the legal activities of an assigned section.

Minimum Qualifications Citizenship : At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

Education : Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform essential functions may substitute for education.

Experience : Level II – Two (2) years of clerical work experience, including at least one year of legal clerical work involving preparation, typing, and processing of legal forms and documents with knowledge of common legal terminology, procedures, practices, forms and documents.

Level III – Three (3) years of clerical experience, two of which must be progressively responsible legal clerical work involving preparation, typing, and processing of a variety of legal forms and documents with substantive knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, practices, forms, and documents.

Substitutions : Credits from a regionally-accredited college or university may substitute for general clerical experience on a month-for-month basis. Relevant legal office education or training may substitute for the required clerical experience in a law office. Foreign education must be evaluated for comparability. All substitutions must be met at the time of application.

Substitution Details

Business school or college credits may substitute for general clerical experience.

Legal office-related education may substitute for clerical experience; credit depends on the program.
