Overview
Investigator (Discipline) II role with the City of New York, Department of Correction (DOC). The DOC is an integral part of the City’s criminal justice system, responsible for maintaining safe and secure environments for staff, visitors, volunteers, and people in custody, and for supporting re-entry efforts. The Investigation Division supports DOC’s integrity, professionalism, and accountability, and handles investigations related to Use of Force incidents and related administrative processes. Responsibilities
Under general supervision, Assignment Level 2 Investigators collect and analyze forensic, audio, video, written, medical, and testimonial evidence. Question DOC uniformed and non-uniformed members of service, interview detained and sentenced persons and other witnesses. Liaise with external criminal justice agencies, such as the New York City Department of Investigation and City District Attorney’s Offices. Draft reports that summarize evidentiary findings; testify before administrative tribunals (the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings); learn DOC procedures, rules and regulations, administrative disciplinary procedures, and the criminal justice system. Minimum Qualifications
A four-year high school diploma or equivalent with four years of satisfactory full-time experience in applicable fields; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. Residency
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles may be eligible to reside outside NYC after two continuous years of service, depending on the title and location. Additional Information
