Overview
La Paz County is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our Finance Department. Under the supervision of the Administrative and Fiscal Services Director, this position is responsible for the professional management of the County’s financial and budgetary activities, ensuring compliance with county, state, federal, and grant regulations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to build hands-on experience in governmental finance, collaborate with a supportive team, and make a meaningful impact through public service. Responsibilities
Manage and reconcile complex governmental chart of accounts across multiple funds. Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions; resolve discrepancies in revenues, expenditures, payroll, accruals, and cost allocations. Monitor and analyze grant accounting activities, ensuring compliance with GASB revenue recognition standards. Prepare and review monthly financial reports, journal entries, reconciliations, and cost analyses. Support budget development, monitoring, and forecasting. Assist with fiscal year-end closing, audits, and preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Collaborate with county departments to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. (Equivalent accounting experience may substitute for the degree requirement). Strong knowledge of governmental accounting and grant accounting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial software systems. Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle large volumes of detailed work accurately. Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. Annual Salary Range: $49,046 to $72,592 (competitive salary based on qualifications) Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement, paid leave, and professional development opportunities.
