Job Summary
Lightpath is seeking an OSP Engineer who will be responsible for supporting the construction of the Lightpath fiber network from an engineering and splicing perspective and other duties related to fiber plant construction. In addition, this role will support plant maintenance, repair, and support as it is turned over to plant operations. The OSP Engineer is a vital part of the Lightpath team. Lightpath has near-term plans to dramatically accelerate expansion and, in doing so, the construction of a new fiber optic plant network. The OSP team is responsible for working with outside contractors to enable the rapid deployment of the plant to enable this expansion, as well turning it over to our customers for use. The OSP Engineer plays a key role in this process. Responsibilities
Play a key role from a conduit, cable and fiber management perspective. Help with the overall fiber network design with best cost in mind when working with outside engineers that are designing the running line. Engage engineering firms to assist in the low-level and high-level design. Assist in the infrastructure ordering process as materials are needed and help support the management of materials using material management vendors in the market. Manage engineering contractors to meet proper timeframes and quality of work specifications that meet LP and customer requirements. Ensure all engineering vendors are coordinated with municipalities from a drawing expectation perspective. Support LP Construction Managers with cable install and splicing crews, provide splicing diagrams and layout timelines and workload to ensure project turnover to customer. Confirm all plant has been installed as designed at the completion of each project. Work with engineering firms to ensure all plant updates have been uploaded into our inventory system and are correct. Provide OSP support on maintenance, repair, and relocation of plant. Work effectively with other people and teams in the organization. Assist in business case development. Perform inventory system audits of the existing plant. Collaborate with team members in daily and weekly meetings to provide updates on engineering efforts required to meet timelines. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. College degree and/or equivalent 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar field. Positive attitude, willingness, and eagerness to learn new things, team player. Ability to understand/learn the fiber network construction process. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office. Understanding of basic fiber network designs. Ability to interpret fiber and utility maps. Telecommunications/fiber network color-code competency. Must have a clean driving record. Ability to pass a drug test. Ability to work collaboratively with others on all responsibilities. Additional Requirements
Requires sitting, hearing, and talking, occasional standing and walking, and infrequent bending at the waist, twisting of the upper body, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, squeezing, and crouching. Requires infrequent lifting and carrying of 1-40 pounds. Close detail work requiring visual acuity.
