Overview

Inspects turf, landscape beds, annual beds, athletic fields and other areas of woody ornamentals and turf for insect damage or presence, disease in plant material, improper soil nutrient content and other forms of turf damage. Perform skilled chemical spraying work at various city properties. Evaluate spraying requirements for insects and disease control selecting proper herbicides and applying chemicals following approved techniques in order to maintain an effective control of undesirable vegetation and prevent damage to adjacent vegetation. Maintain logs of all treated areas specifying turf problem, chemical used, date and time of treatment and application rate. Set up signage as necessary. Maintain equipment used for chemical treatments. Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description. Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two (2) years experience in turf and or woody ornamental maintenance involving chemical application. High school diploma or G.E.D. Experience operating chemical application equipment. Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida Driver license within thirty (30) days of employment. PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Florida Public Applicators Restricted Pesticide License with ornamental and turf endorsements. Must be obtained within twelve (12) months of employment. Limited Lawn and Ornamental License. Must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies. Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
