Job Description Instrument technicians are responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating electronic equipment and gauges that control, regulate, and/or monitor a mechanical system.
Position Highlights:
Must have 4+ years’ experience in instrumentation
Must be able to read blueprints
Must be able to work on low- and high-pressure tubing/piping systems
Must have tools
Must be able to work with precision instruments and tools
Willing to follow all company and project work policies and procedures
Job Duties:
Remove/replace instruments (pressure transmitters, flow transmitters, temperature transmitters, temperature elements, all types of control valves, etc.)
Unwire/rewire instruments throughout the shutdown
Remove old SIS tags & D-risk tags and replace with new ones on existing instruments in the field
Calibrate various instruments and fill out check sheets properly, including:
Temperatures using temperature baths, calibrators, and Fluke meters
Flow meters (Mass, vortex, mag, DP)
Pressure transmitters (mostly low pressure, using hand pumps and Fluke meters)
Level transmitters (DPs, radars, etc.) using communicators and Fluke meters
Visual inspections with proper documentation
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Ability to wear air safety escape hoods
Work up to 10-hour shifts
Work independently and as part of a team
Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, isometric drawings, and instructions
Install, repair, maintain, and calibrate electronic equipment and controls
Test and analyze electronic and measuring equipment for accuracy
Perform preventative maintenance and calibration
Complete reports on work performed
Required Qualifications:
4+ years’ experience in instrumentation or equivalent knowledge
All journeymen tools and experience with power tools
Ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and documentation
Experience with testing, measuring, and adjustments
Knowledge of electrical theory, gauges, and measurement devices
Experience in calibration and calibration laboratories
Ability to work with low- and high-pressure tubing/piping
Reliable transportation
Willingness to follow policies and assist with additional duties
Preferred Qualifications:
Current, ROF’d, or former employee
Formal education or vocational training
Experience in instrumentation at a power plant
Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting
Using arms and hands for signaling, grabbing, holding, controlling tools
Lifting up to 50 lbs
Work at heights, climbing ladders, platforms (up to 300’ with fall protection)
Work outdoors in various weather conditions
Wearing PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, etc.
