Scanning of records. Maintaining and disposing of medical records according to HIPAA and other state and federal regulations. Applying the medical record retention schedule, identifying eligible records for storage or purging. Maintaining the secure storage of both paper and electronic health records (EMR). Assisting with incoming calls as needed, daily emails and other forms of communication. May be assigned other HIM functions to support departmental workflows.**Job Description**Computer proficiency for use in daily work processes. Proven organization skills. Good customer service skills required as individual will periodically provide back-up to other Health Information Technicians. Works well both independently and in a team environment. Will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations and policies related to the same. Applying organizational policies and schedules to manage the lifecycle of patient records ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Reviewing and identifying records that have reached the end of their retention period. Working to protect the confidentiality and integrity of patient health information in all forms. Accurate documentation of all chart retention activities. Utilization of electronic health record. Maintains good working relationships with co-workers and other staff to ensure a great working environment. Will assist with incoming calls, emails, faxes to the HIM dept both internally and externally as needed. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and communicational skills. Ability to work independently and with a team.**Qualifications**High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Prior experience in healthcare environment preferred.
