Network Consultant with hands‑on expertise in Juniper switch architecture and configuration to provide short‑term consulting support for our federal customer, the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI). This individual will play a critical role in supporting the deployment of new Juniper switches forming the backbone of OSTI’s data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring recent, practical experience with Juniper networking environments and be capable of providing architectural guidance, configuration assistance, and deployment oversight in collaboration with our internal engineering team and customer stakeholders. Responsibilities
Lead and advise on the architecture, configuration, and deployment of new Juniper switches in OSTI’s data center. Provide remote consulting support during planned network outages and configuration windows. Collaborate with internal engineers, the OSTI networking team, and the local on-site installer to ensure smooth deployment and minimal downtime. Review and validate network design and security architecture to align with industry best practices and agency policies. Assist in documenting network topology, configuration templates, and post-deployment validation steps. Support troubleshooting, optimization, and validation of connectivity, routing, and firewall policies as needed. Offer guidance to customer technical staff to reinforce operational confidence and transfer knowledge. Required Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with Juniper switch configuration and architecture, including VLANs, routing protocols, and redundancy/high‑availability design. Experience implementing firewall‑based policies using Juniper firewalls. Experience with network monitoring and automation tools for troubleshooting and simplifying routine tasks. Strong understanding of cybersecurity attack techniques and associated mitigation strategies. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Preferred Certifications
Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA‑Junos) Juniper Networks Certified Specialist Security (JNCIS‑SEC) Juniper Networks Certified Professional Security (JNCIP‑SEC) Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Other relevant infrastructure or networking certifications Seniority level
