THE HIRING SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS $36,755 This position answers 911, TDD, and administrative telephone lines and provides information requiring a broad knowledge of City/Police affairs. Retrieves and transmits data at officer's request. Inputs initial incident data into the Records Management System. Provides clerical and administrative support to police and fire departments. This position requires over one year experience in a customer service, clerical, administrative, or telecommunications field; six months of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency; or one and a half years experience in a customer service, clerical, administrative, or telecommunications field. Requires typing speed of 35 words per minute. Requires A-level Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) and Notary Public within six months of starting employment. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner, work well in a high pressure, fast-paced environment, and have the ability to work rotating schedules. Selected candidate will be required to pass a comprehensive background investigation to include: Polygraph Psychological Examination Credit History Check Drug Screening * To continue in the testing process applicants MUST turn in a completed application, meet the minimum requirements for the position and MUST successfully complete and submit a typing certificate by the closing date of Monday, December 11, 2006, 5:00 p.m. Telecommunications Operator Testing and Interview Schedule

Testing will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006, 7:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Testing will include the following: WRITTEN TEST PERFEX TESTING PANEL INTERVIEW *All candidates who submit a completed application and successful typing certificate will be notified of the testing locations and relevant information. TYPING TEST REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must complete and receive a typing test certificate on their own. The typing test certificate must be received by the closing date of Monday, December 11, 2006, 5:00 p.m. All typing test certificates must be turned in to human resources (Attention: Sabrina). Out of state applicants may mail their typing test certificates directly to the human resources department. They must be post marked on or before the closing date. Typing test certificates can be obtained through employment agencies, vocational training centers and community colleges. The test must be signed by the proctor/instructor. Results need to show gross and net words per minute or key strokes per hour. The test certificate must have been received up to 6 months prior to the closing date. The test must be taken at a testing site with the proctor/instructor present. Any type of internet based testing will not be accepted. The applicant is responsible for all fees to obtain a typing test certificate. Telecommunications Operator 1st Year Objectives

Successfully complete the Telecommunications Training program, which consists of demonstrating the ability to: Develop effective written and oral communication skills and ability to speak clearly over the radio as demonstrated by accurately dispatching Police personnel to calls for service. Learn the geography of the City of Goodyear as evidenced through practical and training exercises. Develop skills to effectively utilize the Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management Systems through training and practical exercises. Work under pressure and be able to accurately assess emergency situations, and make sound, independent decisions as demonstrated to supervisory personnel and trainers in practical and training situations. Answer 9-1-1, TDD, and administrative phones lines, and obtain pertinent information as demonstrated by safely and accurately dispatching police personnel to calls for service. Obtain A-Level Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) through ACJIS within 6 months of employment by successfully passing the required test. Obtain Notary Public Certification through the State of Arizona. Practice EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE when dealing with the public as evidenced by displaying a genuine interest in their needs. Maintain a clean and serviceable uniform as well as a high standard of personal hygiene as directed by department policy. Work effectively with fellow employees and supervisors by practicing good communication skills, support, and teamwork. Receive an overall SATISFACTORY rating on a City performance appraisal at the six month mid-term and at the end of the one-year trial period. Disqualifications

Been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Arizona. Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces. Illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported marijuana for sale. Illegally used marijuana for any purpose within the past two years. Illegally used a dangerous drug or narcotic, other than marijuana, for any purpose within the past four years. Illegally used marijuana, dangerous drugs or narcotics other than for experimentation. The use of an illegal drug is presumed to be not for experimentation if: The use of marijuana exceeds a total of 20 times or exceeds 5 times since the age of 21 years. The use of dangerous drugs or narcotics, other than marijuana, exceeds a total of 5 times, or exceeds one time since the age of 21 years. Illegally used marijuana while employed by a public safety agency. Used any hallucinogenic drug including hallucinogenic mushrooms (except during religious ceremonies). Hallucinogenic drugs also include LSD. Examples of a dangerous drug or narcotic drug would be, but is not limited to: Cocaine, crack etc., Methamphetamine (crystal meth or speed of any kind); Anabolic Steroids (after 1994) except prescription only or FDA approved over the counter preparations. Illegally used dangerous drugs or narcotics while employed by a public safety agency. Used or tried narcotic or dangerous drug by injection. Had a pattern of abusing prescription medication. Been previously employed by a public safety agency and since has committed or violated federal, state, or city laws pertaining to criminal activity. Lied during any stage of the hiring process. Falsified his or her questionnaire or application. Discretionary Disqualifiers

More than one employer termination in the last five years. More than two employer suspensions in the last five years. More than four employer written warnings in the last five years. A history of sick leave abuse in the last 12 months. More than four occasions of reporting to work more than 15 minutes late without authorization in the last 12 months. Any shoplifting arrest(s) in the last three years. Stolen any merchandise from an employer within the last three years. (this does not include minor amounts of office supplies) Receive more than six ticketed traffic offenses in the last three years. More than two at fault accidents over the candidates driving history. Excessive amounts of physical confrontations with another person that show a lack of control and maturity. An inability to perform the essential functions of the position. Unlawful sexual conduct. Excessive traffic violations; DUI, reckless driving, moving violations. Any discharge from the U.S. armed forces other than an honorable discharge. Debts demonstrating an unwillingness to honor fiscal contract or just debts. Any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession. Conviction of or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with such a frequency so as to indicate a disrespect for traffic laws and disregard for the safety of other persons on the highway within the past three years.(automatic disqualifier for officer) Unresolved responses to relevant issues when administered a polygraph examination.
