Overview Job Title: Meat Manager
Department: Meat
Reports To: Store Director

This is a management position. The Meat Manager will lead staff toward success with key traits including patience, even-temperedness, humility, humor, good listening skills, observant and decisive leadership, flexibility, and the ability to coach and develop others. This role is customer-service oriented and requires strong people skills, a positive attitude, and openness to growth and expansion.
Summary
The Meat Manager coordinates the activities of workers engaged in ordering, processing, and selling meats and poultry and maintaining frozen food lockers. They are responsible for all aspects of Meat Department operations with direction from the Sr. Director Meat/Seafood/Sushi, the Meat Merchandiser, and the Store Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares the weekly and daily work schedules and directs the activities of employees in the Meat Department.
Responsible for staffing, training and overall development of Meat Department employees daily.
Trains employees on cutting, trimming, deboning, and cleaning meats and poultry; trains on opening and closing procedures for the department.
Responsible for training and follow-up for the Meat Apprentice Program and ensures proper documentation of training.
Helps manage costs by controlling shrink and theft; maintains appropriate profit margins in accordance with the approved budget (sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes, waste management).
Ensures proper ordering, receiving, and display of products; advises customers on quality and handling.
Orders products accurately and in a timely manner; logs invoices; conducts monthly department meetings.
Engages and coaches others in suggestive selling; supports new product development and product introductions, dept. demos, and training.
Responsible for monthly inventory; maintains clean and visible displays; enforces marketing programs and communications with the Store Director and Meat Department staff.
Maintains adherence to policies, service standards (including the 15 Second Service and 7 Points to Extraordinary Service), and safety requirements (Cal OSHA SB-198).
Maintains Meat Department sanitation and equipment; leads by example and oversees the Seafood Department.
Follows the employee handbook and ensures service, quality, and cleanliness standards are met or exceeded.
Supervisory Responsibilities The Meat Manager manages 1-3 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 6-10 employees in the Meat Department. Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, and addressing disciplinary needs in accordance with Bristol Farms policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or GED; 3–5 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of Bristol Farms.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, and volumes. Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret instructions, resolve conflicts, analyze situations, and implement solutions.
This is a customer service driven position. The candidate must have the ability to speak, read and understand English.
Physical Demands Regularly stand, walk, use hands, lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. May work near moving mechanical parts; exposure to heat/cold, electrical shock, and loud noise. Visual requirements include close and color vision.
