University of Alaska
Adjunct Dance Instructor - UAA Department of Theatre and Dance
University of Alaska, Juneau, Alaska, United States
The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking adjunct instructors to prepare students for fulfilling careers in dance and dance education. This position requires community and educational outreach; the ideal candidate should possess a vision of forward-thinking curriculum and a classroom inclusive of all skill levels.
Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a labor pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the labor pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule.
Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness.
To thrive in this role adjunct faculty need a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with students and a desire to help turn student aspirations into reality. The department is seeking candidates who possess a dance/performance background which includes dance techniques, choreography, dance history and/or dance research as relevant for the assigned course(s), as well as knowledge of western dance styles and street dance styles.
Additional areas such as dance production skills in lighting, sound, stage management, costume, singing and acting skills are encouraged.
