BelovED High School Humanities Department
is to provide a comprehensive curriculum that is based upon research and best practices, ensuring that students become critical thinkers, proficient readers, expressive writers and communicators in order to promote the literacy skills and concepts required for success in an ever evolving global and technological world. Goals
The ideal candidate: Holds Standard teaching certification in History/Social Studies Has a strong knowledge base and execution of best practices in Writing Understands and applies the NJSS ELA Companion Standards for History, Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects to integrate reading and writing into content area instruction Understands and applies effective strategies for intervention and differentiation in the classroom, including serving English language learners and students with individualized education plans (IEPs) Candidates must hold or plan to pursue the New Jersey Department of Education certifications necessary to teach High School. Responsibilities
Deliver high school social studies instruction with a focus on critical thinking and literacy development. Integrate reading and writing into content area instruction in alignment with standards. Utilize intervention and differentiation strategies to support English language learners and students with IEPs. Collaborate with a teacher coach, participate in professional development, and engage with grade-level professional learning communities. Assess student mastery using high-quality formative assessments aligned with the curriculum. Teacher Supports
Sample supports include: A teacher coach, career-long professional development assistance and grade-level professional learning community support; A research-based curriculum and supporting curricular materials (you will have the freedom to develop your own, but after a full day in the classroom, you may appreciate not always having to develop learning objectives and curricular resources from scratch); High-quality formative assessments, aligned with our curriculum, that will help you immediately identify when students have not achieved mastery of a skill, concept, or knowledge item; Full-time reading and math specialists who will be available to tutor students who are struggling to master an essential skill, and social workers who will be available to help students struggling with outside problems; The staffing of our afterschool program by Academic Tutors, so we can limit the length of our teachers’ work-days; Abundant planning periods that provide teachers an opportunity to prepare up-coming lessons during the school day.
