Parks, Heritage, and Tourism Interpreter II

Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, direct, and present interpretive and outdoor recreation-focused programs and special events for park visitors, civic groups, schools, and other organizations. This includes demonstrations, talks, guided walks, and outdoor skills workshops.
Design programming to facilitate engaging experiences and guide park guests toward a personal sense of place regarding the cultural, historical, and natural resources within the collections and mission of the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources and south Arkansas.
Research and record data regarding park resources and programs; write detailed program plans; coordinate publicity efforts with the Communications section (media releases, news articles, flyers, brochures); may appear on local radio or television as needed.
Assist with care of museum artifacts and records; occasionally deliver presentations using audio-visual equipment.
Assist with strategic planning, site maintenance, and perform office, front desk, and hospitality-related duties as necessary.
Serve as park manager on duty in the absence of other personnel; assist in park operations including emergency response situations (medical and weather incidents).
Plan and coordinate safe, organized, engaging programs and special events with attention to logistics and budgetary requirements; align interpretive programming for schools with Arkansas state curriculum standards.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays, and which can include varying weather conditions outdoors.
Criminal background check and driver’s record check are required.
Knowledge And Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.
Ability to translate complex historical or environmental topics into engaging and accessible content.
Knowledge of interpretive methods, heritage tourism, and environmental education principles.
Ability to develop and deliver age-appropriate educational programs; creativity in program design, storytelling, and interactive learning techniques.
Strong problem-solving skills; ability to handle guest inquiries and concerns.
Experience working with diverse audiences, including children, families, and school groups.
Strong attention to detail and ability to conduct historical, cultural, or ecological research.
Time management skills to balance programming, administrative tasks, and visitor interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of experience in interpretive programming, environmental education, museums, education, or a related field.
Licensure / Certifications
N/A; other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
